With a bit of help from our friends David and Lisa, and a willingness to pull our ox from the mire on the Sabbath, we have made it into our new home here at LaGrande Apartments.
True to form, we seem to have some bad luck with the A/C, and possibly a cracked foundation that lets water into our rug, and we're paying 50% more for 50% less space (ok, Jordan doesn't think it's quite that bad)... but still! It's home and we love it.
The best additions - a dishwasher and garbage disposal! You don't appreciate what you've got until it's gone.
Above the dishwasher is our toaster oven, and a stack of ads. I'm trying to become a couponer. Huge emphasis on the "trying". Any tips, gang? Let me know!
We still somehow have enough space for all of our ridiculous amounts of stuff. Speaking of which, I've recently discovered a new site called Listia that is a little bit amazing. Check it out! It's essentially Ebay, except that it's all free! It's a great way to get rid of extra stuff, and to snatch up sweet deals on other peoples things. I've already gotten some fish supplies and new holiday scrubs. WHICH I CAN'T WAIT TO WEAR!
Said fish supplies are due to our new family members. We can't have *real* pets (we tried for a cat - no luck), so we got these bettas in protest. Jordan was a bit skeptical at first, but he seems to have warmed up to his "little birdies". Man oh man, do these guys love to eat!
Note the Peru coasters in the background. So far this fantastic wedding present is being used to keep these tanks from leaving marks on our awesome entertainment center (came with the apartment).
Our other role here at LaGrande has been to step in as the new R.A.'s. Well... one of the new R.A.'s. Apparently there are others, they just don't actually have to work. Hmmm....
So far Jordan's been the one keeping on top of things and making friends in the Continental Properties office. I have, however, managed to set up a Facebook page as well as make little signs to put up places telling people to use it. In the meantime, Jordan does the registration and paperwork and picture-taking and sweeping and.... I'd say it's pretty even. To be fair, my new job is still taking up a lot of my time, so I'll use that excuse.
I have made a few attempts to decorate. It's hard to do when you don't know how long you'll be in the place. And also when you can't decorate. But we got up some pictures and I'm calling it a success.
Well, hey, while we're at it, why not take a whole gol-darned house tour?
The Kitchen
The Living Room
Our Book Nook! That's right. We have a book nook. Be jealous.
Our Fishy Home
Tiny Hallway
The Bathroom
We "remodeled" our bathroom, by buying a new toilet seat, shower curtain, and shower head. We're pretty handy like that.
Our Bedroom
Our Spare/Guest/Computer Room
Finally the bunk beds are back together again! One was recently separated for a brief stint at T&N's while Nadia's family was staying with them for Nana's baby blessing.
Speaking of computers, Jordan has made some progress with his programming. He's almost got the card game "Hand and Foot" up and running! I'm really excited to get to play it. It should take a lot of the memorization of complicated rules out of the picture!
